ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Mission:

Plan and develop a program of activities for the Annual Conference to provide educational programs, professional development and networking opportunities for the Association members. Committee members will be asked to contact sponsors and exhibitors to help the committee reach its monetary goals. Members are required to attend the Annual Conference in support of the Conference and will be asked to staff various functions.

Meeting Times:

First Wednesday of every month, unless otherwise stated.


Attendance Requirements:

In person preferred. Some meetings are mandatory. Conference calling is occasionally permitted.

Prerequisite:  Attendance at previous year's Annual Conference.

Expectations: Members are expected to attend the Annual Conference and Expo, and contact exhibitors to help the committee reach its monetary goals.

CARE

Mission:

Identify and recognize outstanding contributions by REALTOR® members in serving their community at large and through their local boards and associations. 

Meeting Times:

Two meetings per year - one in July and one in the winter.


Attendance Requirements:

In person preferred.

Award winners are selected in July and a winter meeting is held if there are any award criteria changes.  Meetings are typically two (2) hours in length.

COMMERCIAL ALLIANCE

Mission:

To provide a forum for commercial REALTORS® and real estate professionals to confer on commercial real estate related issues and to provide related networking and educational opportunities.

Meeting Times:

Quarterly meetings, generally held on the 3rd Thursday.

COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

Mission:

Develop and implement programs for members and external audiences and suggests topics and speakers for Webinars geared toward member professional development.  The Committee oversees the publication of the Maryland REALTOR® magazine and reviews and recommends member benefits that will provide value to members through its affiliate programs.  A subcommittee of members volunteer to judge the Maryland REALTORS® Community Service Award, presented at the Annual Conference and EXPO in September.

Meeting Times:

Meetings are generally held on the 3rd Thursday of each month from October - June.


Attendance Requirements:

Members may attend in person or via conference call.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

Mission:

The Finance Committee formulates and makes recommendations concerning strategic and financial planning and budgeting for presentation to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. It also monitors the Association’s finances and prepares the fiscal budget of the Association for the coming year.

The Committee is responsible for development and implementation of Maryland REALTORS® Investment Policy. Some members of the Finance Committee may be appointed to the Investment Management Team. The Investment Management Team works with the Maryland REALTORS® Investment Advisor (an outside firm) in developing a long-term investment plan and makes appropriate investments to reach its goals.

Meeting Times:

Two - three meetings per year (January - April)

Prerequisites:

1.  Must have served as Treasurer of Maryland REALTORS® or a local board/association of REALTORS® or a REALTOR®-related organization, such as a Council, Society or Institute of the National Association of REALTORS®.

2. Possess demonstrated expertise in nonprofit finances; or

3. Possess a degree in finance or accounting, or other experience that demonstrates a substantial understanding  of the principles of finance and accounting relevant to REALTOR® organizations.

GLOBAL BUSINESS

Mission:

Explore and build global business opportunities and relationships for association members – commercial as well as residential practitioners – through educational events, communications and networking. The committee will gather resources to create opportunities for affiliate practitioners of international real estate and coordinate with NAR Global to offer Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) designation courses. Maintaining relationships with members of diverse groups such as the Asian American Real Estate Association (AAREA), Maryland Hispanic Real Estate Association (MHREA),  and Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) will be a priority.

Meeting Times:

Bi-monthly meetings on the 1st Tuesday of the month from October - June; generally from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

GRIEVANCE

Mission:

Examines complaints of unethical conduct and request for arbitration from local Boards/Associations either through direct requests or through Maryland REALTORS® local Boards/Associations Professional Standards Service Program to determine whether the complaint is proper, improper or has sufficient substance or merit. When all the information is gathered, the Committee decides whether a hearing is warranted, or the complaint should be dismissed or referred back to the complainant to be resubmitted in proper form.

HOUSING AFFORDABILITY EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

Mission:

This committee is a partnership between the former Housing Affordability Committee, Equal Opportunity and Cultural Diversity Committee.  Committee members will have the opportunity to develop programs and opportunities for all Maryland REALTORS® members statewide.  Encourage REALTORS® and their local boards/associations to create and preserve housing affordability and opportunities by partnering with a wide range of  lenders, nonprofit organizations, housing counselors, and state and local government agencies; provide oversight to Maryland REALTORS® Housing Opportunity Certification (formerly Workforce Housing Certification); promote financial literacy, and develop content for the Maryland REALTORS® consumer website. There will also be a focus on promoting equal opportunity and fair housing practices and produce Maryland REALTORS® Fair Housing initiative.  The committee will encourage cultural diversity through collaboration with multi-cultural real estate organizations such as AREAA, NAHREP, and NAREB.

Meeting Times:

Meetings are bi-monthly from October - June, on the 2nd Wednesday the month, and generally from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

ISSUES MOBILIZATION

Mission:

Evaluates issue mobilization requests presented by Maryland REALTORS® or local REALTOR® Boards and Associations to determine whether they will effectively promote REALTOR® policy.  Determines whether Maryland REALTORS® should fund or participate in an issues mobilization effort.  Sets criteria that Maryland REALTORS® and local Boards and Associations must meet to access Issue Mobilization funds.  Provides oversight to issue mobilization efforts initiated by Maryland REALTORS®.  Sets policy and procedures for reviewing and managing requests.

LEADERSHIP ACADEMY ADVISORY GROUP

Mission:

The Maryland REALTORS® Leadership Academy is dedicated to broadening and enhancing the leadership skills and capabilities of a blend of real estate professionals to prepare them to assume leadership roles within the industry and community.  The Committee presents a program that will develop potential proactive leaders for the local boards/associations and the state association.

The Committee creates, implements, and develops the Academy program, including course content covering state and local issues. The Committee obtains sponsors, screens applicants for admission, emphasizing candidates with potential skills suitable for leadership positions within the industry and monitors the program delivery.

Meeting Times:

Two meetings per year, or as needed, (not including 2 or 3 sessions if serving on the Interview Panel)

LEGAL ACTION FUND

Mission:

LEGISLATIVE

Mission:

The Committee assesses the impact of specific bills on the real estate industry, and based on Maryland REALTORS® policy and legislative agenda, determines whether Maryland REALTORS® will support or oppose those bills.  The Committee works directly with Maryland REALTOR® lobbyists in advancing a pro-real estate legislative agenda.

Meeting Times:

Number of meetings per year – 6 to 8.  Meets weekly beginning in January through early March.  Meets infrequently, at the call of the Chair, during the rest of the year.

Meetings are usually 2 – 3 hours, but can be longer in mid-February.


Attendance Requirements:

Attendance at Lobby Day is expected.

Committee members are expected to participate in State and Federal Calls for Action.

Committee members are expected to attend Maryland REALTORS ® Lobby Day and to provide support and member guidance during the program and visits with legislators.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

Mission:

Develop programs on the NAR Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, advise local Boards/Associations on interpretation of the Code of Ethics. Provide arbitration or hearing panels in cases where local Boards/Associations cannot adequately conduct hearings.

Meeting Times:

One meeting possible for Code of Ethics update.  As needed when a request is received by Maryland REALTORS® from a local Board/Association to conduct an ethics hearing or arbitration.


Attendance Requirements:

As needed, in person or via conference call.

Prerequisite:  Must have served on the Professional Standards Committee at the local level.

PUBLIC POLICY

Mission:

Develops and recommends Maryland REALTORS® policy on real estate issues and a legislative and regulatory agenda for staff and the Legislative committee to pursue.  The committee is composed of broker-owners or their representatives, and up to 20% active practitioners.

Meeting Times:

Six meetings per year on the 4th Wednesday of every other month.

Meetings are usually 2 hours.

REAL PROPERTY OPERATIONS

Mission:

To advise the Maryland REALTORS® President and Leadership with regard to real property owned by the Association on matters including proposed leases for commercial tenants; extensions of existing leases; the value of and tenancy for commercial space offered; and other matters related to ownership and maintenance.  The Real Property Operations Committee provides oversight of Maryland REALTORS® property, including Maryland REALTORS® occupancy strategy.

Meeting Times:

Three meetings per year, usually February, June and December.  Additional meetings only as needed.

REALTOR® INSTITUTE (GRI) ADVISORY GROUP

Mission:

Administers courses for the GRI Designation, recommends instructors, subjects, scheduling formats and assists in promoting the GRI program. An Instructor Review Subcommittee monitors and counsels instructors and reviews current programs.

Meeting Times:

Three meetings per year, or on an as needed basis.

Meetings no longer than 2 hours.

REALTOR® OF THE YEAR

Mission:

The Committee is composed of former REALTOR® of the Year recipients who meet annually to review the local board/association candidates to determine the State REALTOR® of the Year.

STATEWIDE FORMS

Mission:

Review all Maryland REALTORS® statewide contracts and addenda regarding the sale of property to determine changes, additions or deletions due to legislative actions and industry practice, with the goal of having a large majority of firms use the Maryland REALTORS® forms.  Committee members are broker-owners or designees, and up to 20% of the membership may be comprised of non-owner practitioners.  The Committee is responsible for having all forms reviewed by Maryland REALTORS® legal counsel and approved by the Executive Committee prior to release.

Meeting Times:

Third Thursday of the month, depending on need.  Typically 5-8 meetings per year.


Attendance Requirements:

Members may attend via conference call.

Nominating Committee

Mission:

The Nominating Committee nominates and interviews a slate of officer candidates for the office of President-Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary, and names the candidate for each open At Large position from names submitted by those districts.  The officer candidates and names of the At Large candidates are forwarded to the General Membership for consideration and a final vote.
