HB 1628 Sales Tax on Services voted down in Subcommittee! The bill will be considered officially defeated once the full committee meets to vote it down either today or tomorrow. There is another bill HB 1354 - Sales and Use Tax on Services bill that Maryland REALTORS Legislative Committee voted for a No Position since it does not include a tax on real estate services. We will continue to monitor this bill, however, and keep you updated. The Call for Action for HB 1628 has currently been suspended. Thank you for all of your continued advocacy efforts.
RALLY UPDATE: And what a SHOW it was! Today's RALLY was an amazing show of our collective REALTOR advocacy voice! Thank you EVERYONE for devoting your time and energy to travel from all over the state in opposition to HB 1628.
YOU are the REALTOR voice and spirit, not only demonstrating genuine concern for Maryland's affordable housing but your passion for political advocacy as well. A sincere thank you also to our Maryland local association/board colleagues for everyone's remarkable collaboration and synergy -- we are better together! We will continue to keep you updated about this important issue but for now, well done all!
RALLY UPDATE: Almost SHOWTIME! Logistics for Day of Rally - Arrival, Rally Remarks/Office Visits and Departure/Boxed Lunches. Safe travels everyone!
RALLY UPDATE: Almost SHOWTIME!
ARRIVAL: Regional Buses and Annapolis Buses from Navy Stadium will be arriving between 10:00am and 11:15am at the corner of Rowe Blvd and Calvert Street, turning right in front of Maryland Treasury Building on Calvert Street to drop off REALTOR Rally Members at the REALTOR Rally Staging Area (Speakers/Banner). Upon arrival, REALTORS will receive from Maryland REALTORS staff (in red vests): logo hats, lanyards, signage and Isn't 9 billion ENOUGH Talking Points (leave behind piece for House Delegates).
RALLY/OFFICE VISITS: Remarks from Maryland REALTORS Leadership will begin at 11:30am and conclude near Noon: Upon conclusion of Rally remarks, REALTOR members should proceed across the street to the House of Delegates Office Building with their local Association/Boards (local AEs/GADs will be holding up Local Association/Board Signs). Ideally -- visits will be by House of Delegates by County by Floor/Room number (Locals AEs/GADs will have lists).
Our goal is to cover all offices and realize some Delegates may receive a couple since they represent a couple of local associations/boards. If an office is closed, please slide under the office door. Most likely, security lines will be a bit long, however, this will allow ample time to group and makes for an excellent visual demonstration of our advocacy efforts.
DEPARTURE/LUNCHES: Boxed Lunches will be made available via Navy Stadium by regional bus and those who drove separately and parked at Gate 5.
Your polite, peaceful and professional advocacy efforts are much appreciated! Safe travels!
Maryland REALTORS will be RALLYING again in Annapolis on Monday, March 2nd, with buses arriving at 11am for an 11:30am Rally start time -- we need you to turn out and urge opposition to the Sales Tax on Services (HB 1628)! As in the past, Maryland REALTORS has been in opposition to such legislation due to it's impact on housing affordability as well as given the tremendous contribution real estate already provides to local governments and education. (REALTORS HB 1628 Talking Points – Call for Action pending and will be sent under separate cover.)
The hearing is Monday at 1pm. Again, buses from throughout Maryland will drop off REALTOR members the corner of Rowe Blvd and Calvert Street, in front of the Maryland State Treasury Building which has been reserved/permitted with Maryland Capital Police.
An abbreviated timeframe of the day is below:
