Our Legislative and Public Policy Committees develop a straightforward political agenda to:Support and develop legislation that helps our industry, and Oppose legislation that hurts the free transfer of real estate. The Legislative Committee typically reviews over 200 pieces of legislation and regulations each year.

Maryland Legislature Completes Special Session

The Maryland Legislature completed its special session on May 16th.  The Legislature increased some taxes, but did not reduce the mortgage interest and state and local property tax deductions.

Real Estate Commission Revises Licensee Disclosure Regulation

Real Estate Commission Executive Director Katherine Connelly has announced final action on two changes in the Code of Ethics that govern all Maryland real estate licensees. The modfications, effective March 19, 2012, update a licensee's duty to disclose an ownership interest in property offered for sale or lease, a licensee's interest in acquiring a property and disclosure requirements for employees of a real estate brokerage or a licensee. The Commission also updated the rule prohibiting discrimination in the provision of real estate brokerage services.
