FEMA Issues Immediate Flood Rate Relief Bulletin

On April 15, 2014, FEMA issued a WYO (Write Your Own) Company Bulletin implementing the first provisions of the Flood Insurance Affordability Act and providing immediate rate relief to homebuyers.

NAR Issue Brief Mortgage Debt Cancellation Tax Relief

On April 3, 2014 the United States Senate Finance Committee agreed to a bipartisan bill to reinstate close to 50 tax provisions that expired at the end of 2013. Among the real estate provisions included is the mortgage debt forgiveness along with others.

DHCD Special Mortgage Incentives until May 30, 2014

Maryland Mortgage Program (MMP) has a Veteran’s Initiative only until May 30, 2014:  Homefront Program for Veterans or Homefront Program for Disabled Veterans.  Also, MMP is offering a Special Low Interest Rate for Targeted Areas (3.625%) for borrowers who are purchasing a home in a Targeted Area. This is a $20 million initiative that ends on May 30, 2014 or when funds have been exhausted, whichever comes first. 

Brief Status of MAR Legislative Priorities

The Maryland General Assembly adjourned sine die Monday, April 7th, at midnight.  MAR’s eminent domain bill (SB 850) passed its final vote at about 11:50 pm - a very close call.  Although a compromise was needed to move SB 850, NAR officially recognized Maryland as the first state to pass a ban using eminent domain for seizing performing, underwater mortgages.

In anticipation of the Senate Finance Committee markup of the Mortgage Forgiveness Tax Relief Act on Thursday, April 3, NAR is sponsoring a DC print ad that will appear in select editions of Roll Call, Politico, The Hill, and NJ Daily publications on Wednesday and Thursday.

Bowler/Team Registration Information:

* Complete the registration form here, include your check made payable to “RPAC” and return to your Local REALTOR® Association/Board.

* Any Association/Board that would like to participate should contact a local bowling alley and reserve lanes for that night, sometime between 6 p.m.  and 8 p.m. 

* While promoting the event, get teams to sign up. 

* All money raised counts towards local goals and could increase your participation rates if a member who attends has not yet invested in RPAC.

* Once MAR receives all the proceeds, winners will be announced.

* There will be an Association/Board Trophy for “Most RPAC Contributions” & for “Most First Time Participants”

February 2014 Housing Stats Press Release

February existing home sales decreased slightly, but average and median price continued to rise, according to the Maryland Association of REALTORS®. Units sold declined by 0.02 percent, eight homes, compared to February of 2013, while average price rose by more than $19,000, or 7.2 percent, and median price increased more than $17,000, a gain of 7.7 percent.
