Distance Education can be defined as education obtained through means other than the live classroom.
Various forms of distance education have been around for a long time, i.e. home study programs, video presentations and audiotapes. With the pervasive use of the web, more and more industries are looking to distance education as a means to keep their industry, members and constituents informed.
Maryland is no different. The Maryland Real Estate Commission now has the authority and the process in place to approve programs offered through various distance education methods. Please note that on-line courses may only be considered for continuing education credit and for the salesperson's pre-licensing program. On-line pre-licensing programs for brokers credit are NOT approved at this time.
Members currently may take, and are encouraged to take, programs available through distance education for professional enhancement and career competency. However, members should always check with the on-line provider to ensure that “ MARYLAND” continuing education credits are available. Not all on-line courses have continuing education and not all courses marked “CE approved” have approval in MARYLAND. Please check PRIOR to registering for any course.
